Layered Wood

The half lap joint is one of the most common woodworker techniques. By creating an overlap two pieces of material they can be joined together, resulting in a strong connection. When layering differently sized pieces of sheet wood together, instead of manually creating this overlap, several lap joints can be integrated in the construction of an object or piece of furniture, resulting in an extremely strong connection with relatively little effort.

The rigid geometric shapes of the furniture and objects follow from the way the joints are integrated in the construction. Seamlessly the rectangular shapes cross one another, with the right angle being the only fixed parameter. The finished objects are coated in either resin or varnish to create a durable end result.
