Sonia Kacem
Sonia Kacem received her MFA from HEAD—the University of Art and Design, Geneva in 2011. The artist works primarily with sculpture and installations. One of the central themes in her work is the creation of a relation between form, material, and space. Through the correlation and interplay of all elements and their application to spatial properties the artist challenges not only the traditional notion of sculpture but also the perception and experience of space. Sonia Kacem earned scholarships as well as a number of awards, such as the Bourse du Fonds Berthoud and the Fondation Gertrude Hirzel Prize in 2012, the Swiss Art Awards and the Rotary Club Milano Brera Prize for Contemporary Art and Young Artists in 2013, the Manor Art Prize in 2014, and the Kiefer Hablitzel Prize in 2015. In 2016, Sonia Kacem received the Prix d’art intégré dans l’espace public de la ville de Nyon. Kacem has also participated in artist residencies such as a residency in New York from the Canton of Geneva in 2014, and in Amsterdam from the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in 2016.
